Executive leader, Licensed Professional Counselor, pastor, educator and public servant with more than two decades of service.

Dr. Lucretia Mason-Underdue is an accomplished executive leader, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), pastor, educator, and public servant with more than two decades of experience in behavioral health, education, ministry, and community leadership.

Professionally, Dr. Mason-Underdue serves as a Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) for Magellan Health, and she also has a private practice, Another Step, L.M.U., LLC. Her career includes service as a Behavioral Healthcare therapist for the City of Portsmouth and more than 18 years as a Professional School Counselor with Portsmouth Public Schools.

She is the Founder and Senior Pastor of United Community Church in the Portsmouth/Chesapeake, Virginia area, a ministry established in 2019 after God called her to plant a church during the COVID-19 pandemic. Under her leadership, the church has become a place of worship, healing, outreach, and community engagement.

Dr. Mason-Underdue earned a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Education in Counseling from Virginia State University, a Master of Divinity from Virginia Union University, and a Doctor of Ministry from New Brunswick Theological Seminary. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia, where she counsels children and adults, and she is known for being passionate about integrating faith, mental health, and community wellness.

She is the author of Real Prayers for Real People and has devoted her ministry and professional life to helping individuals and families experience hope, healing, and transformation. She has also served in leadership within several ministerial organizations, including multiple terms as Treasurer of the METRO Ministers' Conference of Virginia, and is an active member of F.L.A.M.E. Fellowship where she also serves as a board member.

In 2026, Dr. Mason-Underdue was appointed by the Governor of Virginia to serve on the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board, where she helps provide strategic oversight and governance for one of the Commonwealth's largest public enterprises. Her appointment reflects a distinguished record of leadership, ethical service, and commitment to the citizens of Virginia.

Dr. Mason-Underdue is widely recognized for her collaborative leadership, servant's heart, and unwavering commitment to public service. Whether counseling, preaching, mentoring emerging leaders, or serving on the Virginia ABC Board, she is dedicated to strengthening individuals, families, churches, and communities throughout the Commonwealth.
